Banana & Cashew Green Smoothie

Keeping that smoothie game strong and interesting is important when it comes to achieving health goals.

Smoothies are an excellent host for superfoods. You can pack in so many powerful components and not even taste it because the flavors can be easily masked with the help of foods like almond butter, berries, bananas… The possibilities are endless which is great because it keeps things interesting!

I love a good smoothie in the morning, or for a post workout snack. I tend to get stuck in a rut though and make the same one over and over and over. Creature of habit? Perhaps. Lazy? More like it.

This little smoothie is a nice departure from the norm. The base is still my preferred choice, greens, then a protein, followed by two of my absolute favorite superfoods: maca powder and collagen peptides.

Maca is an incredible mood-booster, great for your your endocrine system, energy levels even your libido! (bow-chicka-wow-wow!)

Collagen peptides are all the rage lately. It’s packed with protein, incredible for bone and joint health and most notably for your skin. A lot of Hollywood celebs have been linked to it (Jennifer Aniston), so if it’s good enough for Hollywood, then by golly it’s good enough for me! 😉

This smoothie can be made with or without the maca and peptides, neither affects the flavor, only its overall nutrition levels.

This smoothie is the perfect fuel to start your day, or to mix in later in the day as a snack, or even use it  as a meal replacement. It’s creamy, slightly sweet and oh so hearty!

Here’s what you’ll need for this energy-filled, hormone balancing, vitamin-packed smoothie!

Banana & Cashew Green Smoothie:

1 handful of spinach (fresh or frozen)
1/2 frozen banana
1/4 c. raw, unsalted cashews
1 tsp. maca powder
1 scoop collagen peptides
1 date (pitted)
1/2 c. of ice
8 to 10 oz. filtered water

Directions:

  1. Cut a banana into slices, place in a bowl and freeze for one hour (overnight is best, that way it’s ready to go in the morning).
  2. Place spinach, 1/2 of the frozen banana, cashews, maca powder, collagen peptides, ice and water into a blender. Blend until smooth.
  3. Serve.

NOTES:

*For a creamier smoothie add one whole banana.

*For a sweeter smoothie add 2 dates, or 1/2 tsp of raw honey or grade b maple syrup.

*If you don’t have cashews walnuts are a good alternative.
