Energy Boosting Bananas

“This sh*! is bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!” ~

Trust me when I say this dish is truly, bananas. It involves bananas and it’s so simple, yet tastes bananas… it’ll make you want to launch into this Gwen Stefani song-fav of mine too!

I came up with this dish when I was trying to make a healthy dessert for my kids. It can easily be amped up to dessert by adding some chocolate chips on top or cacao powder, but I’ve got it in my morning rotation as a breakfast option since I always try to keep breakfast light. Plus, this dish is loaded with things that will help you get up and running in the morning AND it only takes about 5 minutes to make, with 5 little ingredients!

Ingredients:

1 banana

1 Tbs. almond butter

2 tsp. of raw honey (grade b maple syrup or agave for a vegan option

1 Tbs. hemp seeds

1/2 tsp. cinnamon (sprinkled on top)

First melt the nut butter+ 1 tsp. honey. You can either pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds, just enough time to get the honey melted, and then stir it all together. I prefer to melt it on the stove, though, in a small sauce pan. It takes two to three minutes to get it all melted and then stir it all together.

Slice the banana in half, but don’t cut all the way through it and spread the almond butter/honey inside the banana.

Once that’s done, sprinkle 1 Tbs. of hemp seeds on top for some additional omega-3’s and omega-6 fatty acids (great for heart health and reducing inflammation). Hemp seeds are also loaded with protein, iron, magnesium which are all great for creating and sustaining energy.

Lastly, drizzle the last tsp. of honey on top and dust the banana with a little cinnamon. Cinnamon is known to aid in digestion, lower cholesterol and has anti-inflammatory properties. I mean, why not sprinkle a little on it, right?!! Plus, it provides some amazing sweetness and flavor.

And there you go! A quick and easy dish that you can serve as breakfast, a snack for your kids or even dessert!
